Saturday Night Date |
|
Five different boys had a crush on five different girls. During
school, each boy asked the girl out on a date this Saturday night.
Each was very relieved when the girls agreed. Schedules and parents
were arranged for pick-ups and drop-offs so that at 5pm, five young
couples were en-route to a different activity for the evening.
Determine the full name of each boy, the full name of each girl he
asked, and what each couple did on Saturday night. |

Mistaken Deliveries |
|
Larry works at the Millersville Post Office and today he received five
puzzles from various customers. Somehow, five letters were delivered
to the wrong addresses. The strange thing was where the mail was
actually delivered. Usually when mail was delivered incorrectly, it
was to a similar name or street, or sometimes to a different number on
the same street. But the five letters he received today were delivered
across town from where they should have gone, and even stranger, not
one of them was remotely similar to the place it went... |

Christmas Choir Soloists |
|
The high school choir held a concert on the last Saturday evening
before Christmas this year. The choir, made up of both boys and girls,
sang five popular Christmas carols as well as a selection of medleys.
Five of the choir had short solo parts, one each, in the five
Christmas carols. Determine the full name of each soloist, what year
of high school each soloist was currently in (Freshman, Sophomore,
Junior, or Senior), and the name of the Christmas Carol in which each
performed their solo part. |

Hotels at the Conference |
|
Five people fly into town to attend a conference. Unfortunately, hotel
space for the conference had filled up fast so even though they’re
from the same company, the five ended up in different hotels. The good
news is that the hotels were all within walking distance of the
convention center where the conference was being held. The odd thing
about the hotels where they stayed is that all were
individually-owned, rather than part of corporate chains. However,
each was still a very well-rated and successful business... |

Friday Night Bowling |
|
Four couples bowl every Friday night in the Millersville Couples-Only
bowling league. They’re about halfway through the first half of the
winter season, and competition is starting to get fierce for
placement. Each night, the couples bowl three games and can win up to
8 points for the night. Last Friday, all four couples moved up in the
league ranks, though none of the couples played each other this week.
Determine the first names of each couple, the number of points they
won on Friday night, and each couple’s team name. |

Dieting Success |
|
Five friends decided that it was high time they lost all that extra
body fat and returned to the more comfortable weight each was in high
school or college. So, they started their own dieting and exercise
program with great success. A year later, each woman had made her
target weight, losing between 60 and 100 pounds! Determine the full

Harvest Craft Show |
|
The 38th annual Harvest Craft show, put on by the Millersville Rotary
Club, was held last weekend. Held at the Millersville high school, the
craft show is an annual tradition for the townsfolk and always
attracts a large crowd. This year, 120 dealers setup to sell their
wares - everything from handmade quilts and hand-knitted sweaters to
homemade jellies and fresh honey, to homemade soaps and hand-carved
toys. Five friends visited the craft show together, browsing through
the booths Saturday morning when the craft show first opened. Each
friend ended up buying both a gift for another friend and something
for themselves... |

Pet Sitting Weekend |
|
It’s been a busy weekend for Larry. Five people in his neighborhood
left on vacation Saturday morning and each of them left a pet for
Larry to care for until they return. It’s a good thing this week is
school vacation week, so he has lots of time to take care of
everybody! By some odd happenstance, the animals left in his charge
are all different types of animals and each is owned by a person who
lives alone, with just the one animal for company. Determine the name
of each pet’s owner, the name and animal type of each pet, the street
each owner lives on and the number of days that Larry needs to care
for the animals for each owner (3 days to 7 days). |

Best in Show |
|
The Millersville Annual Dog Show was this past weekend and they got a
remarkable turnout this year. Not only did they have contestants in
most breed categories, but they had some qualify for national marks.
Like any other show, there were the inevitable crisis situations but
all were relatively minor, and as well the show had its share of
humorous situations. The highlight of the event was the awarding of
the Best in Show ribbons. As it happens, four places were awarded and
each went to a different dog breed... |

City Block Construction |
|
Two whole city blocks in the downtown area have been closed to traffic
for the week while the road is being repaired. For five people on
their way to work, it has created nothing but headaches. Having been
forced to find an alternate route, each worker now has to use two
streets to get through this area, instead of the one street presently
closed off... |

Truckin’ Cross Country |
|
Four truckers are hauling loads in their 18-wheelers from Newark, New
Jersey clear across the country to California. The truckers all had
different loads and stopped in different cities for rest breaks on the
way across the country. These truck drivers were all veterans of this
long haul trip and knew the roads and the route well enough to avoid
typical commuter-driven traffic. But without a crystal ball, the
occasional accident, road construction, or even flooded bridge just
can’t be avoided. Each of them got caught in traffic from one such
event that delayed them for a time, but in general their long hauls
went smoothly... |

|
Five American couples headed to Europe this week for a two-week
vacation. While their flights all left from New York on the same day,
each couple’s flight left at a different time. None of these couples
were traveling together and once in Europe, their travel plans
differed greatly. In fact, each couple even lived in a different
state. Determine the full name of each couple, what US state each
couple lived in, and the flight number and departure time for each
couple’s flight. |
