Ice Sculpture Art Show |
|
As part of the New Year’s Festival, Millerstown featured an art show
of ice sculptures on the town green. The sculptures ranged in size
from that of a lap dog to an enormous block of ice featuring a
complete castle with a dragon hovering over it. The sculptures were
judged by the mayor, chief of police, and the president of the town
garden club. The townspeople also got to cast a vote for the most
popular award. Determine the full name of each winner, the award each
won, and the subject of the sculpture of each winner... |

New Year's Festival |
|
Millerstown had a marvelous idea – combine a winter festival with the
New Year holiday. The funds raised would be used to update and expand
the emergency care center of the town’s only hospital. The town
enthusiastically supported this idea and turned out in droves for the
event on New Year’s day. The day’s festivities included an ice
sculpture art exhibit, ice skating on the town green, a cross country
ski race, plenty of food, games for the kids, an auction of goods and
services donated by local merchants and townspeople, and many other
events and exhibits... |

Classroom Snowflakes |
|
To celebrate the first snowstorm, Lucy's art teacher had them design
snowflakes and cut them out using pieces of colored construction
paper. When the class was done making them, everyone laid out their
finished snowflakes and the class voted on which were the best
designs. Determine the full name of the classmates who won the class
vote, the color of construction paper each of the winning designs was
cut from, and where each design placed. |

First Snowfall |
|
Lucy looked outside on Friday morning to see snow on the ground. She
was so excited - it was the first snowfall of the winter! School was
delayed an hour that morning as the town plowed the four inches of
snow off the roads. She looked forward to school with keen
anticipation. She couldn't wait to chat online with her Northern
friends during her study block. When she compared notes with them, it
turned out that each of her friends had gotten snow that week, though
all from different storms on different days - even different
amounts!... |

Lunch at Tony’s |
|
Four people from different companies stopped at Tony's for lunch
yesterday. They'd heard about this fabulous new sandwich shop and
opted to give it a try. While each worked for a different company, the
four had been friends for years and so stayed to eat lunch together at
Tony's shop, rather than returning to work to eat alone. Determine the
name of the company each friend worked for, the type of sandwich and
the bread each ordered, and what each friend had to drink... |

Tony's Sandwich Shop |
|
Last week, Tony opened a sandwich and sub shop on Main Street. He has
high hopes for his business being successful as there's a number of
large companies in the area that he can cater to. His first week went
better than he expected. Every day he had a rush during lunch hour,
after which he settled down to his own lunch with a feeling of
satisfaction for a job well done. Each day he chose something
different to eat, drink, and snack on... |

Tasty Apple Treats |
|
Since Jeremy and his friends now had more apples than they could
possibly eat, they needed to find ways to use them up. So each friend
hit the cookbooks and started busily baking (it's remarkable how many
yummy recipes there are for apples!). As it happens, each friend did
such a good job making one recipe, that it was forever after their
specialty. Fortunately for them, each one had a different specialty... |

Apples All Around |
|
It's apple season and five friends went apple picking last weekend at
the Sleepy Hollow orchard, a local orchard where you can buy a bag and
then pick your own apples. It was a beautiful day and the friends had
a fine time. Sometime during the afternoon, the apple picking became a
contest and the friends battled to see who could pick the most apples
from the highest places in the shortest time. The end result is that
they picked far more apples than they had intended, though they had a
grand time doing so... |

First Day of School |
|
Sally is terribly confused. It’s her first day of high school and
she’s feeling very overwhelmed. Moving from class to class had seemed
easy yesterday during freshman orientation with kids on every corner
to help direct her. Now, the hallways were full of kids rushing
around, yelling to each other and distracting her with the exuberance.
With no willing students to help direct her, she’d gotten lost twice
already and it wasn’t even lunchtime yet. To top off her problems,
she’d dropped her notebook and now had to scramble to get everything
together again. She needs your help to get her class schedule straight
now... |

|
Larry, a salesman at the OK Used Cars company, had a busy morning. He
brought five different people out to the lot to show five different
cars. To his great surprise and pleasure, each customer bought the car
that Larry showed them in the lot. Now he just had to process all that
paperwork. Determine the name of each customer, and the color, make,

Summer Day Camp |
|
Four friends participated in July’s day camp program this summer.
Their parents would drop them off at the lakefront each morning and
pick them up at suppertime each evening. The morning activity was a
water sport of their choice and then the afternoon activity was a
different non-water sport of their choice. As it happened, the friends
all chose different activities during the day, though they still saw
each other during lunch... |

This summer, five friends each found a different job to earn money. As
it happened, they all started their new jobs in the same week; each on
