Marcia’s mother let her invite five friends over for a slumber party
on Saturday night. She was so excited! She hadn’t had a slumber party
since her birthday last year and it was going to be so much fun. The
girls were due over at 7pm and their parents would pick them up again
after lunch on Sunday...
The youth group from a local church in Millersville held a fund-raiser
for a local charity group last weekend. Each participating youth
collected sponsors for their performance in a “rock-a-thon”. On
Saturday night, the rock-a-thon took place – each youth had pledged to
spend the night rocking in a rocking chair...
Sally Field loves art. Her home is filled with the works of countless
artisans, both well-known and relatively obscure. She haunts art shows
and even craft shows, always on the lookout for a new piece or
portrait for her home. To her intense pleasure, she struck a gold mine
last Saturday, attending a new art show in a neighboring town...
During their daily commute to work, five people listen to fiction
audio books. Each one prefers a different genre. Due to the
constraints of their cars, they listen to the books in a variety of
ways – on cassette tape, CD, even iPod®! They all find that listening
to audio books immensely improves their daily commute by reducing
stress and giving them true enjoyment during the trip while still
feeling like they’re doing something productive, instead of just
wasting time while they sit in traffic...
Five outstanding seniors graduated from the Millersville High School
last weekend. Each of the five was in the top twelve students of the
Class of 2009 and each also won a special academic award in a
particular subject. Five very proud parents watched their children
receive both awards and high school degree that sunny Saturday
morning...
Jerry and four friends spent yesterday afternoon playing miniature
golf. It was a gorgeous day and the five friends had a great time. Par
for the course was 42 and all of them had decent scores at the end of
the course. Each one also got a hole-in-one at a different hole in the
18-hole course...
Next Saturday is Senior Prom
Night for the Millersville High School. This
always-anticipated event has had the student gossip buzzing
all week. While many of the couples going were no surprise,
as they’d been dating awhile, some couples would make the
Senior Prom their first date.
Senior Prom Night was last
night and the event was an enjoyable evening for all who
participated. The meal was deemed delicious and the disc
jockey played an excellent selection of music, keeping the
dance floor packed throughout the evening...
At Gadgets Corporation, there are currently five new projects in
development. Each project has a weekly meeting for the project leads
to discuss potential issues and schedule changes. To make it easier,
each of these projects uses a single code word for a project name. As
it happens, each weekly project meeting is held on a different day and
at a different time...
Five girls made fudge after school this week. Each girl made fudge on
a different day and each had a little sister who insisted that she
must help. Although each girl made a basic chocolate fudge, they all
decided that plain fudge was boring. So, each decided to add a
different nut to their fudge, to make it more interesting...
Dad loves ties, but not just any old tie. He likes ties that stand up
and pay attention – the kind of tie that many would find tacky or
over-done. Flowers, characters, people, scenes, and the brighter the
better – these were the types of ties that Dad loved. He’d wear them
proudly to the office, on social outings, and even when traveling.
Often times, he’d also leave a trail of startled people in his wake,
to his great delight. “I’m just waking them up and adding a bit of
spice to their life,” he’d cackle gleefully, when his somewhat loud
ties were remarked upon...
Five friends go swimming together at a local health club every weekday
morning. They started this routine as a way to get in shape but also
discovered that they enjoyed the camaraderie of swimming together. The
health club where they met had a very nice Olympic-sized pool marked
with separate lanes for the swimmers. Since all of them were about the
same skill level, there was a bit of friendly competition in their
daily exercise routine as well...
Five couples were soon due to have their first baby. In an eagerness
for parenthood, they were involved in a flurry of activities to get
ready for their new child. A bedroom was put aside for the new baby,
colors picked out and redecoration begun... Determine the name of the
prospective parents, their two favorite names, and the name used when
the child was born.
The maternity ward of the Millersville Hospital had a very busy week.
Five babies were delivered, hale and healthy, to their ecstatic
parents. The happy couples, all first-time parents, were enchanted
with their new sons and daughters... Determine the name of each
couple, the name of their newborn, and the day of the week and time of
each delivery.
Four friends have a favorite TV show currently running its fifth
season. Oddly enough, while the four are close friends, their interest
in TV shows is very different so none of the friends share a common
interest in TV shows. In fact, each favorite show even airs on a
different channel at a different time...
Four people traveled away from home to go to the First Night
celebration in a different city for New Year’s Eve this year. None of
them had ever traveled for New Year’s Eve and looked forward to the
celebration with great enthusiasm. The four people all traveled to
their chosen city using a different method of transportation...
Four friends met for dinner last night at a favorite local restaurant.
They had an enjoyable evening of excellent food and good company. But
as it happens, each person ordered an item off the specials menu then
asked for one thing to be removed and something different to be added.
Privately, the wait staff thought that their changes were rather odd.
But they did their best to accommodate them...
Mary had five friends who were avid jigsaw puzzlers. So for Christmas,
she got each one a new jigsaw puzzle. The puzzles were all different
in size and each one had a different design that she carefully
selected to match the interests of each person. Each friend was
delighted with her gift and declared that Mary’s present was their
favorite of all...
This month, the annual state fair runs for 17 days - an event of
parades, rides, food, music, animals, and so much more. Combining the
best country fair with a carnival, home show, craft show, and more,
the event was almost too big to see and experience in just one day.
Alicia and four of her friends did their best to experience it in one
day though!..
To celebrate the Halloween night, five neighbors traveled across town
to attend different costume parties with friends or family. Each
neighbor wore a different costume to the party and each party was held
on a different street. Determine the full name of each neighbor, what
costume each wore, if the party each attended was held by a friend or
a relative, and the street name of where each party was held.
Four friends took a cooking class together. For their first project,
each decided to bake a pie from scratch for their mother. Fortunately,
the pies came out fabulous and each mother was most impressed with her
daughter’s new skill. The pies were presented as a surprise after
dinner that night and served with their mother’s choice of drink...
This past weekend the carnival was in town! Greg and four of his
friends spent Saturday enjoying the carnival. They spent the day
riding the carnival rides until they were sick and spending their
allowance money on the midway games. Each friend went home with a
giant-sized stuffed animal, full stomachs, and lots of happy memories...
