Over the years, I have amassed a collection of mechanical puzzles of modest size. As mentioned in the preamble, I often invite children to my place and show them my collection. We have also had mathematics summer camps on our campus. I often arrange for an exhibition of part of my collection to the campers. These are all highly-motived children, and the effect is often magical. Fortunately, some of the items are available commercially, mainly thanks to ThinkFun (A Binary Arts® Company). The exhibition often generates much discussion, and has resulted in mini-research papers by the campers on some of the mechanical puzzles.
