Examples of Positive Clues

The blue X can only go in the upper left corner.

The color symbol in the clue indicates one location for a yellow token, but not which shape.

The shape symbol in the clue indicates one location for a triangle, but not which color.

There are four possible locations for this clue on the game grid. The three tokens are found in relationship to each other as shown, but they could be in any of four locations.

According to this positive clue, the blue X will be in the top row, with a yellow token of some shape directly below it, and a circle of some color in the bottom row. This pattern can be in any column on the grid. Each of the solutions shown below satisfies the clue.

Examples of Negative Clues

Negative clues are the exact opposite of positive clues. Negative clues illustrate a token or set of token symbols in a relationship that WILL NOT appear anywhere in the solution. Negative clues are placed on a blue background.

This negative clue indicates that a triangle shape will not be placed in the upper right corner of the grid.

CLUE PLACEMENT

This negative clue indicates that an X shape of some color will not have a grid space above it. In other words, none of the above six patterns appears in the solution. From this clue you can deduce that all three X's must be in the top row of the grid.

A POSSIBLE SOLUTION

THIS SOLUTION IS NOT VALID

This negative clue indicates that the solution will not contain a pattern with a blue token in the top row, yellow token in the middle row, and a green token in the bottom row of the same column.
